What does IT support cost in New Zealand?
If you run a small business, IT support is usually priced one of two ways: by the hour when something breaks, or as a monthly plan that covers looking after everything. Here is what each costs in 2026, what a fair plan includes, and how to compare quotes that are built differently.

The short answer
Most small businesses in Auckland pay between $80 and $220 per user per month for a managed IT plan, depending on what is included. Support by the hour costs roughly $100 to $190 an hour in business hours, and more after hours. Getting an office set up properly, or moving it to a new provider, usually costs between $1,000 and $10,000 once, depending on its size and state. These are typical published prices excluding GST, checked in November 2026.
Paying by the hour
Hourly support suits very small offices with few problems. Expect $100 to $190 an hour for remote help in business hours, a call-out fee or a higher rate for on-site visits, and $200 or more an hour after hours, often with a one-hour minimum.
The catch is that nobody is paid to prevent problems. Updates, backups and security happen only when someone remembers, and every fix is a new bill.
Managed plans: a fixed price per person
A managed plan charges a fixed amount for each user every month to look after everything: monitoring, updates, security, backups and the helpdesk. Published prices in Auckland fall into roughly three bands.
- $80 to $130 per user: monitoring, updates and basic security, with some help included.
- $120 to $180 per user: the typical small-office plan, with the helpdesk and backups included.
- $180 to $220 or more per user: faster response, on-site visits and extra security.
What a plan should include
Whatever the price, a managed plan for a small office should cover these as standard.
- A helpdesk in business hours, with the number of hours or requests stated in writing.
- Monitoring and automatic updates for every computer.
- Multi-factor sign-in, protection against malware and email filtering.
- Backups of email and files, tested regularly.
- Setting up new staff and closing off people who leave.
- Documentation of your setup, with admin access held by your business.
- Response times in writing.
What usually costs extra
- Software licences. Microsoft 365 starts at NZ$11.30 per user per month for Business Basic, paid yearly.
- New laptops, screens, printers and network equipment.
- Projects like an office move, a new server or a network upgrade.
- Work after hours, and with some providers, on-site visits and travel.
How to compare quotes
Quotes are built differently, so line them up on the same questions before comparing totals.
- Are prices per user or per device, and with or without GST?
- Are Microsoft 365 licences included, or billed separately?
- Is the helpdesk unlimited, or capped at a number of hours?
- Are on-site visits included, and is travel charged?
- What response times are written into the agreement?
- How long is the contract, and what notice do you need to give?
- Who holds the admin accounts and passwords if you leave?
